Dr. Rick D. Hackett

Professor of Human Resource Management


Rick Hackett is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Management of Organizational Behaviour and Human Performance at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He is Past-President of the Canadian Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology (CSIOP) of the Canadian Psychological Association, a professional association of approximately 260 Canadian industrial-organizational psychologists. He is “Fellow” of the Canadian Psychological Association and is past Editor of the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences (Human Resources Division) and is currently Editor-in-Chief for a three year term commencing January 1, 2006 . Rick was Guest Editor of a special issue of Canadian Psychology, (focus, I/O Psychology) published in 1998; member of International Who’s Who of Professionals; and member of Who's Who In Canada. He is co-author of a book entitled "Recruitment and Selection in Canada", which was published by ITP Nelson in 2001 (2nd Ed.). From July1, 2001 to June 30, 2003, Rick was a Visiting Scholar at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, PRC. Rick has published in the leading journals of his field, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology the Journal of Vocational Behaviour, and Organizational Behaviour & Human Decision Processes. His primary research interests are leadership, work attitudes, employee commitment, contextual performance and absenteeism.
